Speaking of entrenched power structures, every now and then I run across a religious site like Chick Publications, which produce the infamous Chick Cartoon Tracts, and it creeps me out. My initial assumption was that it was a parody and it took several minutes to decide they were serious. This may seem strange, but its a reasonable Bayesian inference as I come across more websites parodying religion than genuine ones. And when you've heard the Dr. Dimento Dungeons And Dragons MP3 enough times, it can be hard to take seriously a tract claiming that D&D is a front for luring kids into occult witchery. In fact, it only takes a few MST3K-style captions or text bubble replacement to make it a parody of itself. Hence why Chick tracts have spawned a wealth of parodies. The Cthulhu-inspired "Who Will Be Eaten first?" is particularly amusing.
Finding them eases the creepiness a bit. Hardcore xtianity may be some weird-ass shit, but at least I'm not the only one who thinks so.
